Would you like to learn the fundamentals of coaching from USA Basketball and via a live session with an NBA or WNBA coach? Are you a current or former high school varsity basketball player? Does helping teach 6–14-year old's the basics of basketball sound rewarding? 


Join GO 3x3 as a Student Basketball Coach. You will gain hands-on experience in an exciting, community-orientated, youth basketball program. Our coaching program can be used to fulfill volunteer hours, meet academic internship requirements, and for general career exploration. In addition to gaining coaching, sports management, and youth leadership experience on the court, our Student Coaches walk away with a certified USA Basketball training certificate. Oh, and you’ll receive NBA Merch.


This position is ideal for students with career aspirations in coaching, physical education, sports management, fitness, teaching, youth leadership, and more.


Program Length: Depends on the length of the season.  Our Summer League is 5-weeks. 


Mandatory Hours: Monday's, approximately 5-9pm. Additional in-person or virtual training can be requested.


Employment Type: We offer both paid & volunteer opportunities.


As a Student Basketball Coach, you will:

  • Learn about youth development and coaching methods in a basketball camp-like structure and via a classroom.
  • Work with site directors to execute a coaching, sportsmanship, and skill development curriculum developed by the National Basketball Association (NBA).
  • Use your outgoing and positive personality to ensure children have a great time.
  • Instruct and demonstrate basic basketball fundamental movements such as shooting, ball handling, and defense.
  • Coach and referee 5-12-year-olds in live games.
    Collaborate with other Student Coaches and program staff.
  • Help ensure facilities are prepared, safe, and well-kept at all times.
  • Answer questions from players, staff, parents, and guardians.
  • Other duties as assigned.


As a Student Basketball Coach, you must:

  • Complete and pass a background check.
  • Compete or have competed on a high school basketball varsity team.
  • Have a firm understanding of basketball rules and fundamentals.
  • Be able to effectively demonstrate fundamental basketball skills.
  • Have patience, and an eagerness to see youth develop.
  • Be extremely timely and reliable.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A passion for basketball.


Bonus Points if you have:

  • Experience working with or coaching young children.
  • Can provide a letter of recommendation if requested.
  • Love the NBA & WNBA.
